Access College Radio: The ‘Science’ of College Admissions

In the 1980s, geeks hit the big time with a series of surprisingly popular movies—Revenge of the Nerds, Weird Science, Real Genius—all quirky comedies that quickly receded from view.  Today, some 30 years later, geeks are making a comeback.

Science, math and technology seem to be cool once again, and that’s certainly true in college admissions.  Budding scientists and mathematicians are in high demand at colleges across the country.  Access College takes a closer look at this phenomenon in its latest installment, “The ‘Science’ of College Admissions.”

We get the inside scoop from students who have recently run the college admissions gauntlet and been accepted to one of the top math and science schools in the country.  We learn what it takes to set yourself apart in the college application process from a highly regarded science professor.  And we hear some inspiring words about the scientific endeavor from that famous astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

Access College will air on KPFK 90.7 fm in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14th, at 1:30 pm and is available anytime on the Access College archives HERE and on iTunes.
